Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his Cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
At the feast of the Annunciation the church celebrates the angel Gabriel visiting the Blessed Virgin Mary with the announcement that she would conceive and bear a son who would be named Jesus. Mary's openness and obedience to the will of God made way for the Incarnation (God becoming human flesh in the person of Jesus), and thus she is the God-bearer, or Blessed Theotokos, for because Jesus assumed human flesh, we can be saved by his most "blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and his promise to come again" (2019 BCP, 117).
